Sins Are Destructive

When we first became a Christian, we always hear other Christians telling us about repentance and stop sinning. All of us had been introduced to rules since we were a toddler and when we don’t follow these rules, we will be punished by our parents or guardians. When we were first introduced to schools, rules came by as well and I can still remember clearly the school I was attending is very strict when it comes to disciplinary.

Then, does becoming a Christian make life so boring and dull because God gives us a list of not-to-do actions? Does God want to rob us from our freedom (for example, getting drunk, having sex wih multiple partners, seeking for pleasure, being self-centred, etc.) when we accept Him as our Lord and Saviour? Many people see these two questions as something really, really big that had stopped them from wanting to get near a church. Some even asked “Why does your God require you to give 10% of your earnings to the church?”

Is our God a God who doesn’t bless us when we do our duty to give what He had given us? No one can short change God! God has so many blessings in store to pour out to us when we start to obey Him. Is he just like any strict parents stopping their child from having some sweets or fun as they get older? Parents come up with rules for their children to obey because they foresee that if a child were to do certain things, they will fall and hurt themselves. We are God’s Children and, God doesn’t want to see us fall and suffer pain in the days to come.

What we see as freedom will actually cause so us to suffer in anguish and pain. Satan is very good in deceiving people and he will just say, “You shall not die by doing it!”. In the local newspaper I read a while ago, this lady, at the age of 37, had been raised by over-protective parents and, they want to have their say in everything for their precious daughter. She had never been married nor has she been out with any guys on her own, were told that sex is something that is great. She did a research on the Internet and found out that, it is indeed a very pleasurable activity. She’s even planning to sleep with her married colleague whom is willing to take her into the world of what most people say pleasure! When a person is indulging in sins, at the beginning, it is very pleasant and, exciting but it’s only for a certain period of time whereby later, it will result in destruction.

In many ways, sin is destructive in our lives and people of the world will tell you that, they feel bad and guilty when it starts to destruct their lives. We, as human beings are gifted with brain and our brain does a lot of flashbacks. Even during such flashbacks, you will experience the anguish and some will start to feel guilty, trying to rationalise our sins. As the flashbacks occur even more frequently, a person could end up becoming more depressed over what they have done. Worst still, when a person does not even recognise what they have done is a sin, they tend to push the blame on another involving party.

As Christians, we know that God forgives our sins but, that shouldn’t be a reason for us to promote a casual attitude toward sin. Take me for example; I’ve sinned against God, doing something that is not acceptable in God’s sight. Up to a personal level, I can’t even forgive myself and hate myself for what I’ve done. Of course, during that point of time, I find all reasons to continue to indulge in the sin, with the encouragement from another party whom had misled me from one stage to the next. Should I put the blame on this person alone?

I have my share in this issue and had believed in the lies this other person had told me. Satan is not only a very deceiving creature, he knows how to make you fall into his trap, and he knows your weak point! For my case, Satan knew that I can easily trust a person’s story, especially a very sad story and knew that I’m a soft-hearted person, easily pouring out my love to whomever I feel sorry for. As God had allowed Satan to have Job but, Satan is not allowed to put his fingers in him. This shows that God is still in control in every situation even when His Children sinned against Him.

Just like a parent, God’s heart aches when His Children disobey His commands but He had loved His Children too much and He had created each of us, He knows our limit. God came in to my life again at the right timing before I was fully destroyed in a lie that I believed so much. He sent so many people to peel off the seal that covered my eyes to see the truth. He got everything in placed for me to fall on for He said that He will provide a way out when His Children are being tempted so that we can still stand up as stated in 1 Corinthians 10:13c.

As I was drowning in the raging sea of sin, I could see a float being thrown down from the big ship so I could be pulled up safely. As I get out of the sea of destruction, I often looked back into the sea, indulging in my thoughts how did I fell into the rough sea. Nothing and no one is to be blamed, of course Satan can be part of this picture deceiving me into this but, should I have been obedient in God’s command, I would not have let my hand go from the ship and fell into the rough sea.

Sometimes we felt that we don't have much room to move around because of the rules set by the Lord but, God had done this for our own sake. He knows that we can easily fall into temptations and the Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8, Satan is moving around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. God knows that once we let go of our grip, Satan will hold our hand, telling us that it is safe to be with him and he eventually walk us into the valley of darkness. After he had soaked us with enough guilt, Satan will keep on telling us that we are not worthy of being a useful person because of the sins that he brought into our lives. Satan will never let go of someone he had a grip on and will continue to whisper our unworthiness into our ears. For my case, as I looked back into the sea, I began to see a larger area of the raging sea that is so unpleasant and nasty.

God had loved us so much that, He will continue to pull us out from the sea raging with sins until He have us on board in His ship where we will be kept safe. As we continue to walk our journey in this ship He had kept us and never to jump into the sea again or even to let go of our grip from His Hand, He will forgive us and record no more of our past disobedience action.

Be obedient in the Word of the Lord as the journey down the valley of darkness is not a pleasant one and sins are destructive.
